Merry Macaques
Japanese Macaques, also called Snow Monkeys, really know how to get cozy in cold temperatures! Let’s all stay warm this winter with lots of playtime, snuggling with loved ones, and long hot soaks in the bath!

Vera Habanera’s Carousel Fantasy Coloring Book

Venetian Masquerade
My next coloring book is taking inspiration from the wild and wonderful costumes of Carnivale in Venice!
Sun Wukong the Monkey King
Style explorations are my favorite way to exercise my creative muscles. Here I’ve developed three different variations on a design for Sun Wukong from the Chinese novel Journey to the West.
The Monkey King proved to be a delightful subject for this project. He’s a powerful being who seized immortality, a self-proclaimed king over the monkeys, a heroic adventurer and playfully mischievous. There’s also the automatic fun factor in his being a monkey.
Inspired by three of my favorite artists and styles (Al Hirschfield, Akira Toriyama and the visual direction of Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask), I’ve sought to use these various art styles to bring out all the best in this legendary character.
Among the many things I enjoy is 1980’s Japanese pop culture, and particularly how it’s been revisited in the past few years. Pastels, magical girls and punk fashion come together here in a style I’m hoping to develop for a new generation of girls and boys which I call Magic Punk!
